Baggage Compartment

by | Jul 25, 2019 | Rans S20 Build, Rans S20 Fuselage

This project began with an incorrect assumption regarding the ease of working with the aluminum panels. As compared to some of the projects on the wings, I thought this was going to be a quick and easy project. This was not the case. Although the instructions were fairly simple to understand, the process of taping the compartment together, then inserting into the fuselage, and making sure everything fit exactly right was difficult.

On the Aft Compartment, I incorrectly made an assumption regarding the final width of the bottom aluminum sheet by approx 3/16″ of an inch and had to then rivet with that small gap. Ultimately, it did not impact the final outcome.

One of my goals in building the plane is to develop new skills and to improve my patience. Working in a Technology Sales environment for the past 30+ years I spend most of my time with my hair on fire, which is why I have none! Learning to measure and drill accurately, especially with aluminum is more difficult than I imagined.
