Rudder Pedal Fit-Up

As I wait to get access to the local EAA Chapter 67 Paint Booth, a friend suggested I make sure the rudder pedals and control stick were prep’d for install once the painting is done. I spent about three hours this afternoon installing, checking, and making a minor modification.

When I installed the second set of pedals (left) the pre-drilled holes in the round sleeves that hold the pedals in place did not line up with the hold in the floor-board nor did it line up with the threaded insert on the frame tab. As a result, I checked both pedals in the same (left) location in an attempt to determine if the problem was the result of too much length on the rudder pedal or a hole mis-alignment with the frame tab. Looking down thru the floor-board, the holes in the frame tab were perfectly aligned, which did not make sense. The alignment was off by half of the width of the bolt, so not much, but enough to prevent me from properly installing the pedal. After evaluating options, the only approach that made any sense was to shorten the left rudder pedal tube by 1/8″. Although I total forgot to use the pipe cutter, the hacksaw worked as good. you can see from the picture below the amount I removed was very little but enough to allow me to install correctly.
